Applicant Info◎ Name: charlie ◎ Journal: hawt◎ Contact: journal pm Character Info◎ Character's Name: Cinder Fall ◎ Character's Canon: RWBY — Web Series. ◎ Character's Age: >17◎ Canon Point: Post-Volume 2 ◎ Background/History: "Have a little faith. You'll know what you need when you need to know it."◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense?Yes and... it remains to be seen. During "Dance Dance Infiltration", Cinder is shown quickly typing and uploading a flashing chess piece image onto Beacon's Cross Continential Transmit's (CCT) servers. Although it's unclear whether or not she coded that herself or if she planted anything else, her ability to navigate and embed a part of their system would be considered a little more advanced than your basic hacker. ◎ Personality:In chess, the Queen is considered to be the most powerful piece on the board. Able to move as many spaces as she desires and in whichever direction, her potential is almost limitless. The Queen does not suffer the same hindrances her pawns do for she is stronger, more agile... important. And in the world of RWBY (the Remnant), Cinder easily posits why a woman such herself would undoubtedly be considered the Queen.
In any given situation, Cinder holds herself regally. She saunters into a room as if she owns it and speaks softly, sweetly; never raising her voice even when every syllable she utters is a threat. Cinder knows how to delegate trivial tasks amongst her underlings and be pleasantly unsurprised by how often they complete them. Obedience and competence are rare commodities in a henchman but Cinder knows how to expertly extract it from even the stubbornest of allies. It all comes down to the weak recognizing the power of the mighty and being rightfully conditioned to fear it. And if someone happens to forget their place? Well, Cinder will take it upon herself to pleasantly remind them.
With her skills of persuasion and almost untouchable nature, it's no doubt Cinder has earned the right to be the leader; especially amongst her elite motley crew of criminals. But... who's to say that Cinder truly is the Queen in the grander scheme of things? Who's to say she's not simply an overly-capable pawn still awaiting her promotion? And if she is the Queen, then who is her King?
All those questions ultimately converge to the main problem with Cinder; her fondness for (literally) enshrouding herself in darkness and mystery. Thus far, her plans remain largely undisclosed and Cinder has no problems with keeping it that way. Even when asked point-blank, Cinder insists on blind faith and patience rather than offer up a clear answer. While her true intentions continue to obfuscate everyone around her, the glimpses of her overarching machinations reveal both a cunning strategist and a deadly devotion to seeing it through.
The greatest method to undermine one's opponent is by hiding in plain sight, either convincing them that they're beholding the face of a friend when they're actually in the company of the enemy or that she was never there in the first place. Cinder is the wolf in sheep's clothing and has never given anyone enough reason to suspect her. Espionage is almost second nature to her, as she always opts to either disguise herself amongst the crowd or to recede into the darkness; only emerging when and if she chooses to. On the two occasions that she engages in a fight with Ruby Rose, she never once makes a sound and always ensures that her face is obstructed from view. Thus when Ruby does see her face and speak to her, she is unaware that Cinder is the criminal everyone's been searching for. Instead of discerning that Cinder is the villain she's already encountered, Ruby merely believes her to be exactly who she claims to be: a visiting student from Haven. Although this visibly amuses her, Ruby is not the only one Cinder has successfully misdirected (as seen when she loses a pair of guards by discarding her mask, swiftly donning a gown and immersing herself in a sea of dance-attending students) and it is only but one of her favorite ploys.
Cinder's ultimate stratagem revolves around the belief that the most advantageous time to strike is when the enemy is at their weakest as opposed to overwhelming them when her forces are at their strongest. While both is ideal, Cinder is dedicated to ensuring the former and often takes it upon herself to be solely responsible in heavily compromising the other side. She has overseen and assisted Roman Torchwick's robbery of a Dust broker, encouraged allegiances with a group of discriminated extremists known as the White Fang as well as disguised herself as an exchange student in order to infiltrate Beacon Academy; breaching their security as well as compiling a list of students with exceptional semblances. All of these appear to be clues that Cinder hopes to wage war against the Vale by depleting their most coveted resource, encouraging those who continue to feel oppressed to attack their aggressors, spy on whatever new technological advancement may arise and to snuff out young potential before it fully blooms. It's convoluted but masterfully subtle. Cinder seems incredibly aware of the strengths the Vale prides themselves on and the numerous weaknesses they continually choose to ignore. And it is by trusting in their arrogance that Cinder will have accomplished preying on each and every flaw before they were even aware that it was her intention.
Adaptability is shown to be another skill Cinder is also exceptional at as not even the slightest deterrence or alteration fazes her. While she would rather everything be accomplished on schedule, so long as the wheels are set in motion then the mission is still considered a success in Cinder's books. There are times when her impassive facade seems like it might crack such as when she is informed of General Ironwood's possibly unaccounted interference when she is hacking into the CCT or when a plot is enacted days earlier than agreed upon; her shock is only momentary and she is extremely quick to adjust. When asked about it later, Cinder merely scoffs; confidently boasting how successful her complex plans was irregardless.
Despite her overpowering remarkableness, what good is a commander without her army? Cinder has shown herself adept at garnering loyalty in some of the most dangerous characters thus far. While both Emerald and Mercury merely give the impression of rambunctious ne'er-do-wells, they are in fact obedient killers who hold Cinder in high esteem. Cinder, herself, treats them with an almost maternal protectiveness and can converse with them in a friendly almost teasing tone. She respects their observations and will often impart reassurances about her tactics onto them. However, should they act of line then Cinder will chastise them both without mercy. Even when her tongue is sharp, her anger sounds more like an expression of disappointment than anything else. But anger is still anger. It's obvious that she has little tolerance for failures and disobedience even so she clearly trusts that the help she has enlisted will know better than to make the same mistake twice. When Emerald and Mercury act out of turn, their sole intention was to satisfy one of Cinder's requests. Cinder inspires admiration in her soldiers and conversely does not act as harsh towards them.
On the other hand, she is explicitly more menacing to associates like Roman Torchwick who has almost the same rebellious attitude as her underlings. The fact that he works with her instead of for her means that Cinder does not need to foster a caring bond with him. She does not humor his complaints or his excuses and is much more willing to give him a... heated reminder on why his cooperation is more of a necessity to him than to her. With business partners, Cinder feigns a politeness and flirtatious attitude that thinly veils her fury and dissatisfaction. Cinder does not care for friendship or camaraderie but she still knows how to instill fealty in others, namely by being wise enough to know which require positive or negative reinforcement. But at the end of the day, her greatest concern is not whether her allies look upon her in fear or adulation. At the end of the day, Cinder is concerned with how they will work together to defeat their common foe.
There is a complicated game being played in the Remnant, one that involves many pieces and players; and while it is questionable which role Cinder fulfills... the fact that she knows she is taking part, speaks volumes of the dangers she poses against its oblivious heroes. ◎ Powers/Abilities:THEN EVERYTHING CHANGED WHEN THE FIRE NATION ATTACKED.
HUNTSMEN and HUNTRESSES are the most accomplished fighters in all the Remnant. It would not be an exaggeration to compare them to superheroes as they're considered to be quite famous in-universe. They are extensively knowledgeable, impossibly athletic and insurmountably powerful. Simply qualifying to learn to train as one requires remarkableness in all three fields at a young age.
Cinder's fighting prowess is shown to be on par with that of the Huntress. Best exemplified when she takes on both the hunter, Glinda Goodwitch and aspiring huntress-to-be Ruby Rose; whilst maintaining her balance on a plane is a good indicator of her strength. She manages to hold her own and escape without sustaining any injury to herself. Other indicators of her strength include Mercury's remarks that Cinder would have no problems defeating Haven's star pupil, Pyrrha Nikos; and when Cinder subdues a handful of trained security guards alone. Her overwhelming capabilities have given rise to the popular speculation that Cinder may have already graduated as a Huntress (or has already gained the necessary training) but that is only a theory.
DUST is the naturally occurring substance that grants power to all humans and faunus. Similar to how oil is necessary for our daily routine, dust is required from everything to architecture to technology and most popularly, weaponry. The standard usage for the latter is to powder dust making it easier to control and manipulate. Although Cinder is physically gifted, she is shown to be fond of relying heavily on dust specifically of the FIRE variety.
However, unlike most characters, Cinder does not have a weapon that also turns into a gun and instead utilizes the rarer, more antiquated technique of weaving dust into her clothing. This means that the dress or outfits she sews will provide her with the dust necessary to fire projectiles or be turned into weapons in battle. In the midst of a fight, Cinder is able to summon either two dark GLASS dual-blades or a bow almost spontaneously. Each time she uses her powers, her clothes give off a distinctive glow and it's implied that this method requires extreme discipline to wield due to its risky nature. Cinder's preference for it thus support the fact that she either is incredibly powerful or talented or both.
AURA and SEMBLANCE are individual powers present in everyone. While aura is the physical manifestation of one's spirit that can act as a shield to deflect or inflict harm, semblance is something unique and personal. Although Cinder's semblance has not been revealed nor how she utilizes aura in battle (though it's reasonable to assume she unlocks her aura to employ the dust in her clothes and to deflect bullets with a mere wave of her hand), it's a given that she has both. ◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:❚ (1) Standard Outfit ❚ (1) Haven Uniform ❚ (1) Sewing Kit ❚ (1) Scroll ❚ (3) Dust Crystals CEREALIA-Specific◎ Element: Fire ◎ Sense: Sight — Cinder's eyes glow whenever she uses her powers implying a connection between the two. [ it's been on cinder's to-do-list for quite some time now: to (1) gauge the power of cerealia's population and to (2) make herself known to those she deems worthy. so far, her indoctrinated informants have provided her with almost enough findings to satisfy but there are still certain residents she would like to get a fuller analysis on. namely, the heroes. the heroes that range from the gallant, the old and the seemingly ordinary. and what better way to appeal to their chivalrous nature than to play the part that garners the most sympathy?
with an audible fumble, cinder begins her post with her most saccharine and innocent voice. ]
I hope no one minds my little advertisement here but I've been looking for a partner to join me in ViViD. I really haven't had the right incentive to venture into it on my own and teams have always been especially important where I'm from so I thought: "why not?" After all, everything's better with friends... or so they say.
[ punctuating her last statement with a little knowing grin, cinder can't help but mock that sentiment try as she may. still, she quickly corrects herself by cementing the act she's continuing to convey. ]
But fair warning. I definitely won't be any good at it. [ lie. ] Even back at school where fighting was fairly commonplace, I've always been more of a spectator. A learner. [ a half-lie. ] So if someone strong or experienced doesn't mind me simply tagging along to watch, I'd be more than grateful. Leave me a message and we can work something out.
Otherwise, thanks for simply listening. Hopefully this wasn't a complete waste of your time.
[ hopefully, it was. ] ◎ Third-Person Sample: In all her days, Cinder has maintained a very short list of allowable blows to her pride; blows that she has acquiesced to but never once forgiven. Sarcasm and mild insubordination where well within the confines of her tolerance but being forcibly subjugated to an onslaught of barely informative PowerPoint slides? Being talked down to as if she were some disorderly child in need of lecturing? Let's just say that didn't quite make the cut.
From the moment her world crumbled around her, engulfed by flames that were not entirely of her own creation; Cinder has been preoccupied with studying her parting memory over and over. Her world had burned up, savaged by Grimm and barren by war. The ashes of humans and faunist hung thickly in the air like a suffocating fog. It was a fearsome nightmare that Cinder has only dreamed of bringing to fruition but those ambitions were mocked; suddenly parodied when a flickering PRESS START assaulted her vision.
Humiliation and degradation were emotions Cinder has rarely entertained but as she continually allowed herself to be subjected by the droning and repetition of her self-proclaimed rescuers then her feelings would remain, wholly unabated. She only pays closer attention to her presenter when he remarks how she's been saved from corruption. He implies a debt, one that they now expect her to repay in full. All they require (or inevitably expect to receive) is her obedience, her trust and her consent.
It's almost ironic how their sentiments resemble her own. It's almost a joke to hear words she's used before being parroted back to her. Under different circumstances, Cinder could have been considerably flattered and impressed.
But she isn't.
After listening to her presenter make his last quip at her expense; Cinder abruptly stands up from her seat, placing both hands firmly on the table's surface.
"Enough."
Fierceness singes the edge of her words accompanied by a dangerous glow in her eyes, visible only when she raises her head. If the men and women before her were the avid researchers they claimed to be then they were well-aware of her abilities. She notices one man's physically recoil his arm, overtly conscious of how she could suddenly make anything in the room sizzle if she wanted to. The rest, however, remain absolutely silent and that only serves to confirm her suspicions. It's a collective reaction that actually serves to provide Cinder with faint satisfaction and renders her sudden temper relatively amused. Cinder turns away from her stunned audience to make her exit, offering one final glance over her shoulder. After all, they are her valiant saviors and they deserve a formal farewell.
"Oh, but don't misunderstand," she rests a hand atop of her heart; feigning an innocence no one in the room believes her to have. "I'm actually quite sympathetic to your cause. If you're ever in need of my talents... please let me know."
And she does, sincerely hope that they call upon her for assistance. Cinder may view CERES with disdain and begrudge them for robbing her of victory but she ultimately recognizes their power as much as they should come to revere her own. ◎ Is your character retaining any previous game memories? No |
