[ she weighs the added information in her mind, not really sure what to make of it. do people simply not notice the badge pinned to his lapel? but that isn't really important. she can't imagine how being a lawyer in a place like this makes much sense since there isn't a legal system far as she can tell; only dogmas and codes. ]
So you meet a lot of criminals? [ haha, oops. unlike in ace attorney land, she has the more common belief that prosecutors are goods and d.a.'s are the bad guys. like her. ] Have you taken anyone here as a client?
Well... I do happen to meet a lot of criminals, but usually they're not the ones who are initially accused. Out of all the clients I've taken, only one was actually guilty.
And no clients here, sadly. They won't let us practice law here, so I've been having to make due with different work.
...Force of habit? [I just got this back after eight long years. I'm not about to stick in a drawer!] And I guess it reflects my hopes that I can find some way to practice her.
As for my work... well, I guess 'useful' depends on your point of view. But I've been playing piano at the casino and also working as a talent agent.
[ ah. that's not useful, phoenix... she ignores the "playing piano" aspect and focuses on the "talent agent" one. that speaks to her interest or so she hopes. ]
"Talent"? And what is "talent" as defined by Phoenix Wright?
[ what does one have to do with the other?? he must be a terrible lawyer if his lawyer acts as a cesspool of what, cinder assumes, is people who can perform neat tricks??? ]
Do you have difficulties financially supporting her?
[ phoenix please look elsewhere for handouts and donations. ]
No, no! She's actually good enough to support herself and me! The whole talent agency part was her idea, really... [I feel like I'm not coming across as well as I can...]
[ technically, he sounds sheepish but she has to wonder why he can even act remotely proud about it. but then again, his pitiable life state does amuse her, mildly. maybe it gives him that same amusement? this is what she gets for trying to vet worthwhile allies in a sea of strangers. ]
[ again, cinder is rather confused as to why mooching of his daughter's work ethic is something he seems to be happy about. though she can understand what it's like to be impressed by the talents of those younger than yourself (#pedothoughts). it's just not great when you rely on a fifteen year old for money when it should be the other way around. ]
But I'd imagine it'd be easier on her if you picked up the slack, no?
Really, now? I find that hard to believe. Maybe we should play sometime.
[ she's not sure now if he's just over-confident or being honest. do you really think you're lady gaga, phoenix... she almost wants to see it for herself. phoenix is an odd combination of earnest and pitiful and that's just from this conversation. ]
Gladly. I'll see you around then, Mr. Wright. Next time we meet hopefully there will still be a casino.
[ haha foreshadows to like... four months later or however long it's been. but with that, cinder is content to part ways with the promise of another meeting now left in the air. she doesn't really wait for him to say goodbye as she disperses into the crowd. ]

[ just admit you like presenting your badge to random strangers... ]
What kind of work do you have here? Hopefully, something useful?
[ despite phrasing it like a question, it definitely comes across more like a complaint. ]

This sounds like degrading work for someone who was previously a lawyer.
[ little does she know... ]

It just happens to be something that I like to do. Even at home... my law office eventually came to double as a talent agency.
...My daughter's a magician. [That won't sound random as hell.]

Well, I guess that I'm proud of her! She's accomplished a lot for someone so young, don't you think?

[Dumb luck probably does play a part in addition to building his talent for reading people, his sense of bluffing and occasional cheating.
